Hi everyone! My name is Geoffrey Wang, and this blog will be my small corner of the internet. I created this blog because there are lots of interesting things I want to write down; whether it be a useful snippet of code, a project I’m working on, or just random things in my life. I hope that someone out there will find something in my “brain dump” interesting or useful in some way.

While a blog has been on my list of projects for a while now, I’ve never had the time or motivation to go through with it. However, with MIT sending us home after canceling all classes for two weeks because of COVID-19, I now have a lot of time on my hands! After screwing around for a couple days and getting nothing done (as well as motivation from someone else), I’ve finally decided to be productive by starting this blog.

Who are you?

Some random college student who likes to experiment with random things!

Why don’t you use a blogging platform like Medium or a website builder like Squarespace?

This entire blog is an experiment and a sandbox for me to try out new things! I also like to turn all the knobs and dials so hopefully this website will allow me to do all of that!

Is it hard to make your own website?

It doesn’t seem that bad (so far…), but I’m sure there are lots of things I’m overlooking. The front end is definitely doable in a couple hours tops (if you are focused and don’t procrastinate like I do…).

So… what will you post?

I don’t really know yet, but as I’ve said in the first paragraph, I’ve always wanted to have a place to write things down.

“IDK” is not a proper answer…examples plz?

FiNe!!! Here are some ideas I have:

• Software projects like this blog itself. I want to dabble in a bit of everything! From Kubernetes to cool new languages and libraries… let’s hope I have the time (and the motivation) to do everything!
• Electrical projects like designing PCBs with the STM32 family of microcontrollers. Software is all… soft… To make something happen in real life, I need to make something.
• Learning random skills! I want to learn to solve the Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. However, I’ve been saying that and trying for the past 5+ years. Maybe, posting this on the internet now will motivate me to just sit down and learn it.
• Life and interesting (and uninteresting) that pop up! This will be my public notebook that I can refer back to in the future.

How often will you post?

As often as I’m motivated… so very rarely 😛

Anything else I should know?

I have lots of plans, but not a lot of motivation… bug me if you want me to update this website (or if you have suggestions)!

NOTE: If this website looks bare, it’s probably because I haven’t styled it. It would never be released if I kept working on it until I was satisfied! (Or I might have abandoned this like many of my other projects…)
